Midsummer Sunrise Sailing Madness

Despite an inclement weather forecast for SW Force 4 with gusts of Force 6 Clacton Sailing Club enthusiasts went afloat last Sunday from 5 am for their annual Midsummer dip.

13 lucky sailors arrived at Holland Haven beach with many of them already in wetsuits ready to catch the first golden rays of sun but were met with grey overcast skies. Undaunted by thus the clubs Topper dinghies were rapidly launched into the rolling swell and 2 hours of frantic sailing was enjoyed.

Tye Parker

Cadets Chris Krimmel, Sam Ransom and Ben Boxer sailed expertly single handed and were joined by Tye Parker, Jack Dempsey and Lucy Boxer who teamed-up to sail in pairs. Older Cadets Martin Chivers and Pete Boxer joined them proving there's no age limit to fooling around in boats. Rescue cover was maintained by Nathan Buer and Daniel Brezinski although with the Cadets in particular showing complete mastery of the challenging conditions no rescues were required despite many capsize drills!

Hot showers followed by a full cooked breakfast up in the cliff top clubhouse rewarded their efforts and all agreed this was one of the most memorable events of this year so far.
