Class Series Race 1 - Race Report

Race Report for Class Series Race 1 held at Clacton Sailing Club on Sunday 4th May 2014

Pete Boxer wins Class Series Race 1 2014

Force 2 Southerly winds

Sunshine and  gentle Force 2 Southerly winds allowed the competitors to get off to a clean start. Robert Mitchell sailing with son Toby in their Dart 18 crossed the start line out in front on port tack taking advantage of some line bias. The fleet followed heading first inshore before tacking out to sea to catch the flood tide to make the windward mark.

Spitfire catamaran for the maiden voyage

Martin and Debbie Chivers were close behind sailing their new RS500 for the first time with Pete Boxer and Ian Wright also sailing an unfamiliar Spitfire catamaran for the maiden voyage. Sam Ransom and Katie Brook also teamed-up together for the first time and raced the Omega very convincingly.

Once freed-off onto the downwind leg the Spitfire and RS500 were able to fly their kites and as the wind increased and with a following swell they produced some exciting speeds appearing at times on the edge of control.

Pete Boxer claims first place

Class racing will continue throughout the season. Pete Boxer claimed first place with Martin Chivers second and Sam Ranson third.
