Jubilee Rose Bowl (SS1) - Race Report - June 2019

Last Sunday Members of Clacton Sailing Club started their Summer Series of races with the magnificent Jubilee Rose Bowl.

Dan - Jubilee Rose Bowl

At 11.00 sharp Cathy Mitchell pressed the start gun and the race was on!

Full speed

Daniel Brzezinski on his light weight A Class Catamaran hit the line at full speed on a mission to be the first boat to the A Buoy with Larry Foxon and Mike Rolfe on their Hurricane SX with Martin and Debbie Chivers, current holder of the trophy sailing their Dart 18 and Brian Allan and Robert Mitchell on their Hurricane SX all in hot pursuit.

The light winds suited Dan's very swift A Class and equally with the handicap system he knew he would have to get as far in front as possible not to be caught at the end when all the times are converted and counted.

Neck and neck

For the first 2 laps the boats followed in procession with spectators being treated to the sight huge colourful sails from the Hurricane catamarans racing often neck and neck.

During lap 3 of the 4 lap race the 2 closely matched hurricanes tried different approaches to A Buoy leg with Brian and Robert being the victors and pushed on to chase down the leading Brzezinski.

Team Chivers although sailing at the back were still looking good on handicap but with the dropping wind knew they were going to struggle to cause an upset.

With all the competitors safely on the beach, the times counted and numbers crunched Dan was a convincing winner and deserved lifting the Trophy.

Clacton Sailing Club is hosting their second intro to sailing this coming Saturday.
